A website dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the African American experience. It is a subject that revolves around the legacy of slavery in America's past. For anyone who has done research on this topic, many of the challenges in the quest will be evident. Within the institution of slavery, family ties were disrupted leaving only vague and scattered documentation. Finding these pieces and putting them back together is not easy. Therefore, any genealogical research amongst African Americans is an undeniable challenge.

Thomas Jefferson kept records on his enslaved “people” providing a rare insight for study. It is an honor to present the results of research documenting the lives of these slave families in this website’s premiere.
